Oscillating fans for grow rooms

Why a grow tent needs a circulation fan

  • Humidity: still air between the leaves stays damp; circulation lowers the risk of mould, especially in flowering.
  • Temperature: it mixes the warm air under the lamp with the cooler air lower down.
  • Stems: gentle, steady movement makes stems sturdier.
  • Air exchange: it brings fresh air to the leaf surface and helps the extractor renew the whole volume.

A circulation fan does not take air outside: for that you need inline fans with a carbon filter.

Which model and where to put it

At 45 cm in diameter, the Ralight fans are designed for grow rooms and large tents, as a guide from 120x120 upwards.

Ralight 45 cm versionWhere to use itRecommended position
PedestalGrow rooms and large tents with floor spaceAdjustable height, just above the canopy
Wall-mountedGrow rooms, fixed to the wallHigh up, aimed over the canopy
FloorGrow rooms and large tentsLow down, to move air under the canopy
  1. Do not aim the fan straight at the plants: the leaves should move gently, not flap. Oscillation spreads the airflow.
  2. Move air both above and below the canopy: humidity collects mainly low down and inside dense buds.
  3. Fix the wall-mounted model to a solid bracket and keep cables and sockets away from irrigation water.

Circulation by day and night

Leave the fan running with the lights off too: without the lamp the temperature drops by 2–6 °C and relative humidity rises, just when the risk of mould increases. If humidity stays above the values for the stage (45–55% in flowering, 40–50% in the last 2–3 weeks), circulation alone is not enough: you need more extraction or a dehumidifier.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a circulation fan in my grow tent?

Yes: without circulation, pockets of warm, humid air form between the leaves. An oscillating fan breaks them up and evens out the climate.

Where should I put fans in a grow tent?

So that they move air above and below the canopy without blasting the plants directly: the leaves should only just move.

Should circulation fans run at night?

Yes. With the lights off, relative humidity rises and still air encourages mould.

Clip fan or wall-mounted fan?

Clip fans suit small tents. This collection has 45 cm models in pedestal, wall-mounted and floor versions, suited to grow rooms and large tents.
