Harvest and drying equipment

From cutting to storage: the steps

After cutting, plants go through three steps: trimming (removing the leaves), slow drying and storage. Each has its own values and tools; trimming happens before or after drying, depending on the method.

Which trimmer to choose

What matters most is the quantity you process and when you trim:

  • Trimbag and Trimbag Camo: bags you turn by hand with the dried material inside; simple and for small quantities.
  • Manual Tumble Trimmer: hand-cranked drum for dried material, with replacement blades available.
  • Trimpro Automatik: electric trimmer with dimmer, for larger quantities at each harvest.
  • Twister T4: professional trimming machine built for high volumes.

Differences and tips for use are on the bud trimmers page.

Drying: net or tent

The Drynet 90 cm drying net hangs in a grow tent or in a dark, ventilated room: branches or buds lie on the tiers and air reaches them from all sides. The 100x100x200 cm drying tent set creates a separate, dark and controllable space and frees the grow tent for the next cycle. Either way, air should move gently, with no fan blowing directly at the plants. Values and times are on the drying page.

Setting up the work area

  • Odours: during trimming and drying the smell is strong; a carbon filter on the outgoing air is considerate to your neighbours.
  • Humidity: if the room goes above 62% you need a dehumidifier; below 55% the plants dry too fast.
  • Hygiene: clean blades, surfaces and hands; discard any mouldy material at once.
  • Planning: time the harvest by the trichomes and set up the net or tent before cutting.

Frequently asked questions

Is dry trimming or wet trimming better?

Wet trimming happens right after cutting, while the leaves are still firm; dry trimming after drying, when the leaves are crisp. The Tumble Trimmer and Trimbag work dry.

How do you dry plants properly after harvest?

Hung up or laid on a net, in the dark, at 18–21 °C and 55–62% humidity, with gently moving air. They are ready when thin stems snap instead of bending.

Which drying net fits a grow tent?

A hanging multi-tier net such as the Drynet 90 cm, hooked to the tent frame or to the ceiling of a dark room.

How long does drying take?

7–14 days, depending on bud size, temperature and humidity. If it is done in less than 7 days, the room is usually too warm or too dry.

Do you need a separate drying tent?

Not necessarily, but it frees the grow tent for the next cycle and keeps darkness and climate stable. Otherwise, hang the net in the grow tent with the lights off.
